How many phone numbers does the unit call out to? |
 |
Both the Deluxe and Intermediate FreezeAlarm calls up to three phone
numbers. The Basic FreezeAlarm dials only 1 phone number. The number can
be any phone number up to 40 digits in length, including pauses and the
star key if required. It will call a local number, cell phone number,
long distance number, international number or even a calling card
number. |
 |
Can the unit call a cell phone number? |
 |
Yes, all units can call a cell phone number. The number can be any
phone number up to 40 digits in length, including pauses and the star
key if required. It will call a local number, cell phone number, long
distance number, international number or even a calling card number. |
 |
Can the unit call a long distance or international phone number? |
 |
Yes, all units can call a long distance or international phone
number. The number can be any phone number up to 40 digits in length,
including pauses and the star key if required. It will call a local
number, cell phone number, long distance number, international number or
even a calling card number. |
 |
What does the unit do or say when it calls me? |
 |
The Deluxe and Intermediate FreezeAlarm will play either a
pre-recorded alarm message or a personally recorded message notifying
whether you have had a temperature emergency, power outage, or low
battery. The Basic FreezeAlarm will play a factory recorded alarm
message warning of a temperature emergency at your monitored location.
It will repeat this message for 1 minute and then hang up. The unit will
call again in 15 minutes (or 2 hours if desired) and play the message
again. |
 |
What is the exact alarm message? |
 |
The Deluxe and Intermediate FreezeAlarm will say: "Hello, this is
your automated monitoring system. There is an alarm condition at your
remote monitored location. The following alarms currently exist or have
occurred recently."
The Basic FreezeAlarm is say: "This is your temperature monitoring
system. There is a temperature alarm at your monitored location. Please
check conditions at your monitored location."
It repeats this message for a minute and then hangs up. It will call
again in 15 minutes (or 2 hours if desired) and play the message again
as long as no one has called to cancel the alarm call-out before then. |
 |
What happens if the FreezeAlarm gets a busy signal or an
answering machine or voice mail? |
 |
All units will continue to call if the unit gets a busy signal,
answering machine, voice mail, no answer, or even if a person answers.
It continues to call the programmed phone number every 15 minutes (or 2
hours if desired) until a person actually calls back to the location
where the FreezeAlarm is located and cancels the alarm call-out. |
 |
Does the unit call if the battery is low? |
 |
Both the Deluxe and Intermediate FreezeAlarm will monitor the
back-up battery voltage and will call out if the voltage is running low.
All other dialers do not. It is recommended you change the battery once
a year in the fall and anytime after you have received an alarm call. |
 |
Does the unit call if the power is out? |
 |
Both the Deluxe and Intermediate FreezeAlarm monitor the power
status in the home and will call out if there has been an outage. There
is also an option on both devices to set up to a 2 hour delay for a
power outage call out, or cancel the call out feature completely. All
other dialers do not. These units operate on a 9 volt battery and cannot
determine if the power is out at the monitored location. |
 |
Does the unit tell me the current temperature in the remote
building, home or vacation property? |
 |
Both the Deluxe and Intermediate FreezeAlarms will tell you the
current temperature in the home when there is an alarm condition and
whenever you call your monitored location for a quick status check.
The Basic FreezeAlarm does not. You will only know if the temperature is
above or below 45 or 85 degrees F. (Depending on the setting chosen) |
 |
How do I cancel the alarm call-out? |
 |
When you receive a call from either the Deluxe or Intermediate
FreezeAlarm, you simply need to enter your predetermined 4-digit
security code to cancel the call out alarm. You can also call your
monitored location phone number, listen to the quick status then enter
your security code to cancel the call-out remotely. The units
automatically reset once the conditions return to normal. After you
have received an alarm call from all other dialers, you will need to
hang up the phone and call back to your home or business where the
FreezeAlarm is located and let the phone ring for 5 or 10 rings
(depending upon how you set it up). After the 5th or 10th ring, the unit
will answer and play its standard alarm message. When you hear that
alarm message, that is your indication that the dialer will now stop
calling. The unit will automatically reset to normal operating mode once
the temperature gets back to normal. |
 |
How do I reset the unit? |
 |
All units will automatically reset to regular operating mode once
the alarm condition returns to normal. |
 |
Can I change the temperature alarm set point by a specific number
of degrees? |
 |
The Deluxe FreezeAlarm allows you to set both a high and low
temperature range with you choosing the specific degree set points.
The Intermediate FreezeAlarm allows you to choose a specific high or low
temperature set point.
The Basic FreezeAlarm is pre-set to call out on a drop in temperature
below 45°F (7°C). Optionally, this unit has a switch on it to call out
if the temperature rises above 85°F (34°C). |
 |
Does the FreezeAlarm have line seizure capabilities? |
 |
No. The FreezeAlarm does not seizure the line if it needs to make a
telephone call. |
 |
Is there a monthly cost or fee to use FreezeAlarm? |
 |
No. You purchase the product and program in telephone numbers you
want the unit to call instead of having the unit call a monitoring
company. |
 |
Do I need a dedicated telephone line? |
 |
No. All FreezeAlarm models work with an existing telephone line. The
FreezeAlarm does not interfere with your existing telephone line.
FreezeAlarms require an analog telephone line or the equivalent of this
type of telephone line. This means that the FreezeAlarm can often work
with DSL and digital phone systems as long as the FreezeAlarm has access
to a regular RJ11 telephone jack that provides dial tone. |
 |
Can a FreezeAlarm dial out using the old "pulse" dialing system? |
 |
The Basic FreezeAlarm model requires Touch-ToneŽ telephone service,
but our other FreezeAlarm models have the ability to operate on either
the Touch-ToneŽ or pulse dialing modes. |
 |
I have to dial a "9" (or some other number sequence) before a
call a number. Can FreezeAlarm do this as well? |
 |
Yes. All the FreezeAlarms can dial phone numbers that include
numbers to access an outside line or require a code to dial before the
regular phone number. You can even enter in pauses between numbers or
the "star" key as part of the telephone number sequence. This allows
them to be used with long distance calling cards. |
 |
How many digits can each phone number have? |
 |
The Basic FreezeAlarm can handle up to 40 digits including "pauses"
and the "star" key. All other FreezeAlarms can handle up to 60 digit
phone numbers including "pauses" and the "star" key. |
 |
If I unplug the power cord and take out the battery, do I lose
all my programmed phone numbers and settings? |
 |
No. All FreezeAlarm models store the phone numbers and settings
indefinitely in memory that does not require the power or battery to
maintain. |
 |
I am getting a temperature reading that is way off of what the
actual temperature is in the building. What is wrong? |
 |
If you are receiving a very high or very low temperature reading, it
means the sensor is either not connected properly or it is damaged.
Replacement sensors are available. If the unit is recording a
temperature that is only 5 to 10 degrees off, the unit has lost is
calibration. It would need to be sent in to be recalibrated to the
sensor. |
 |
The FreezeAlarm is not responding when I press the touch-tone
keys on my telephone to program the unit or when I dial in. |
 |
Check to see that your phone is playing touch-tones instead of
"pulses". There is usually a Touch-ToneŽ/Pulse dialing switch on the
phone. If that is correct, try pressing the keys for different lengths
of time - either longer presses or shorter presses. Put a pause between
presses as well, taking your time to ensure the unit has the chance to
read the correct touch-tone response. If this still doesn't work, try
using another telephone. If you are dialing into the unit, try calling
in from a different phone. |
 |
The FreezeAlarm is not answering when I call into it. |
 |
Either the phone lines are down or the power is out and the unit's
battery has died, preventing the FreezeAlarm to operate. |
 |
Why is the alarm light on my FreezeAlarm blinking? |
 |
It means your FreezeAlarm is in "standby" mode. When in standby
mode, the FreezeAlarm cannot accept incoming calls and more importantly,
it can't make outgoing alarm calls. |
 |
I have the power plugged into my FreezeAlarm, but all the lights
on the front of the unit are not lit. |
 |
If the power cord is plugged in, but the lights on the front are
off, the power to the unit must be out. When the power is out, the
FreezeAlarm shuts down all the lights to conserve battery power. If the
lights are out and the unit does not accept an incoming call or does not
appear to be functioning, then either the battery is dead and the power
is out or something serious has happened to the unit rendering is
non-operational. |
 |
The FreezeAlarm is calling me with false alarms. |
 |
What is important for the user to note is exactly what type of false
alarm are you receiving from the FreezeAlarm? Many users automatically
think that no matter when the FreezeAlarm calls them, they assume it is
a temperature alarm. You must listen to the entire alarm message
carefully to hear the exact alarm that is occurring. It may be calling
with a power alarm, but you think it's a temperature alarm. After you
have determined there is truly an alarm call that shouldn't be
occurring, then consider the location of the temperature sensor. Is it
located near a heat vent or a window where temperatures could fluctuate
quite a bit throughout a day? If so, move the temp sensor to a location
that has more consistent temperature. You may also have the temperature
alarm set point set too close to the actual temperature in the house.
Reset the temperature alarm set point to be a few more degrees away from
what you normally leave the temperature set to on the thermostat. |
 |
Will FreezeAlarm dialers work with DSL, Digital, or VOIP Phone
Services? |
 |
In most cases, Protected Home's alarm dialers will work with most
digital phone services as long as the proper analog telephone adapter is
installed and analog dial tone service is available. It is important to
test the alarm dialer to ensure the alarm can call out to your
programmed phone numbers and that you are able to call into your alarm
if needed. For specific information about connecting one of our alarm
dialers to your specific digital phone system, check with your telephone
service provider. |
